SNP MSP for Glasgow Region is helping to promote a fundraising sky dive by staff at Rutherglen High School in an attempt to raise funds for a school mini-bus. Rutherglen High School is a secondary school that supports students with a range of learning difficulties and is based at Cathkin Campus along with Cathkin Nursery and Cathkin High School.
Rutherglen High intend using the mini-bus to benefit both pupils from the schools three 'houses' of Jedburgh, Selkirk and Kelso but also the wider community. The house groups consist of students from across all year groups and they participate in a variety of trips such as horse-riding, swimming and wider educational visits. The mini-bus would be of particular help with the schools own charity work. Each year group sponsors a charity and they go on trips to find out more about the work of the charity in the community.
Bob is asking people in Rutherglen in Cambuslang to dig deep to help the school raise the funds and he has also placed a motion before the Scottish Parliament in an attempt to promote the fundraiser.
Bob Doris MSP said "This is a worthwhile cause and I know that a school mini-bus will be put to good use. It will help students to learn far more about the good work that various groups do in our community already and also allow students to also help a number of charities. Such activities are of both excellent education value and broaden the horizons of young people. I want to thank the staff, both teaching and non teaching, that are giving of their time to take part in the sky dive. I hope people will dig deep and donate what they can".
Irene Anderson, a French and Maths teacher at the school, who will also be taking part in the sky dive added-
"A school mini-bus is essential for our pupils, as it allows them to experience a wide range of educational activities across
South Lanarkshire and beyond . I'd be very grateful for any donations or sponsors to this good cause."
Note:
Draft motion laid before the Scottish Parliament:
Rutherglen High School Sky Dive
Parliament wishes the staff, both teaching and non teaching, at Rutherglen High School, every success for their fund raising sky dive on August 22nd 2010. Parliament notes that the sky dive fundraiser is intended to raise cash for a school mini-bus that will be used for a variety of educational and charity activities undertaken each year by both pupils and staff at the school, and looks forward to the school successfully reaching their fundraising target.
