Bob Doris MSP urges Glaswegians to offer a helping hand as snow hits city
Monday, 29 November 2010

snow ploughSNP MSP for Glasgow Bob Doris is calling on Glaswegians to offer a helping hand to vulnerable members of the community as winter comes early to the city. As severe weather conditions hit the city, Bob Doris MSP said:

"I am sure Glasgow City Council will do all they can to keep the city moving and to assist vulnerable individuals. However, it is important that Glaswegians offer a helping hand. I would urge people to check on elderly or infirm neighbours, make sure they are okay, and perhaps offer some practical help, such as gritting their path, or going to the shops for them.

"The City Council will provide individuals with up to 10 kilos of grit from a local depot, or people can use one of the 500 grit bins throughout the city. For more information, people should call the Roads hotline on 0800 373635, where they can also report dangerous roads that need gritted.

"Likewise, if anyone has serious concern over the wellbeing of a vulnerable neighbour, call the social work department on 0141 420 5500 and they will direct you to their local area office and offer help and advice.

"Our front-line services do a fantastic job at times like this, but we all have our part to play."
