Study shows responsible drinkers will not be penalised

The SNP has welcomed a report from the University of Sheffield that shows minimum pricing of alcohol will prevent hundreds of deaths and cut 3,600 crimes each year in Scotland.

The report measures the effect the policy is estimated to have on Scotland’s alcohol misuse problem.

Thousands of households in Glasgow entitled to help with their fuel bills

New figures reveal that in many households are entitled to some form of assistance with their fuel bills that they are not receiving. That help is worth an average of £250 per household and a free helpline is available for more information.

Bob Doris, SNP MSP for Glasgow, today used the launch of the Scottish Government Independence Referendum Consultation paper to ask the First Minister and his cabinet to engage with those least likely, or not registered, to vote.

Mr Doris asked how the independence campaign and the Scottish Government can reach out to habitual non-voters or those who are not on the electoral role at all. He also asked if the First Minister shared his concerns that the most deprived communities are often where turn-out is lowest and so are most disenfranchised.
