Bob Doris, SNP MSP for Glasgow has welcomed news that Glasgow City Council will receive an extra
£2.37 million this year to fund adaptations to the homes of older people and others with disabilities
which enable them to continue to live independently.
The funding is part of a package from Communities Scotland, announced by Communities and Sports Minister Stewart Maxwell, which provides an extra £15 million for the Private Sector Housing Grant (PSHG) bringing the total to £82 million in 2007/2008. The additional funding will also help local authorities prepare to implement the Housing (Scotland) Act 2006, which gives them powers to make new services such as specialist advice available to homeowners who need to repair and improve their homes.
Bob Doris said: "These extra funds will allow Glasgow City Council to raise the standard of living for some of Glasgows most needy and vulnerable residents.
"It is only right that older and disabled people in Glasgow should be able to adapt their homes to allow them to live independently within the community"
"Glasgow City Council can also use this money to look at a variety of new approaches to assist elderly and disabled home owners such as the provision of specialist advice".
"Yet again this reinforces the new relationship between the Scottish Government and Local Authorities. It shows their commitment to helping vulnerable groups and at the same time exposes the shame of Glasgows
Labour MSPs who have been wrongly and irresponsibly scaremongering". |
