Bob Doris MSP

Bob Doris is an MSP for Glasgow and convenor of the SNP Glasgow Regional Association, a group of SNP members from 10 constituencies in and around the city who join together for campaigning purposes.

In February 2006 he was the SNP organiser for the Milton by-election for Glasgow Council which Billy McAllister won with a 15.1 % swing from Labour to the SNP.

Bob serves on the Local Government and Communities Committee in the Scottish Parliament.

Tale of two governments: health restrictions imposed by Westminster system

The UK government’s plan to cap the number of times patients can visit their local doctor has been condemned by the SNP.

A Tory consultation document on health provision is considering an annual limit on GP appointments in England. The paper also asks whether evening and weekend appointments with GPs and consultants are a "luxury the country cannot afford".

Bob visits Akwaba Scotland

Bob at Akwaba ScotlandBob Doris, SNP MSP for Glasgow, recently visited a charitable organisation in Ruchill which provides employment and volunteering opportunities to young people in the area.

Akwaba Scotland run a social enterprise and internet café, and work to integrate the local African diaspora with the wider community. The café sits on Bilsland Drive, and is well placed for locals to drop in and have a coffee or use the internet facility.

SNP welcome fall in alcohol sales

Bob DorisSNP MSP Bob Doris has welcomed statistics showing the amount of alcohol sold in Scotland has fallen by 2.6 per cent in the year since the ban on multi-buy deals was introduced in 2011.

Mr Doris, deputy convener of the Scottish Parliament’s Health Committee, welcomed the report from NHS Scotland Glasgow University that says the Alcohol Act was responsible for a 4% drop in wine sales and an 8.5% cut in pre-mixed drinks.

Doris urges more powers to protect Glasgow’s learning disabled

Bob Doris MSPBob Doris, MSP for Glasgow, today urged the Scottish Government to review the powers open to them to ensure that local authorities conduct open and genuine consultation when considering the redesign of day centre services for adults with learning difficulties. The call follows Glasgow City Council's decision to close three centres, denying vital places to 320 service users and placing a greater burden on carers.

In a parliamentary question to Michael Matheson, Minister for Public Health, Mr Doris made it clear that the closure of three centres would only exacerbate the problems faced by carers and service users. Mr Doris urged the Minister to consider further powers, including the possibility of call-in, in cases where the consultation process was found to be flawed.
