Third Glasgow Labour councillor under police investigation - Strathclyde Police should set up in Labour office
Tuesday, 27 July 2010

Bill Kidd MSPCommenting on a report in the Herald today that a third Labour councillor in Glasgow is under police investigation – this time for inappropriate behaviour toward female colleagues – Glasgow SNP MP Bill Kidd said it underlined something seriously wrong with the Labour party in Scotland’s largest local authority.

It is reported that Labour councillor Gilbert Davidson has been reported to the police for his behaviour towards two Labour councillors.

This follows an ongoing police investigation into former council leader Steven Purcell; which has been followed by police questioning of councillor Ruth Black over corruption and drug abuse. Ironically Ruth Black is one of the councillors who has complained about councillor Davidson.

Commenting Mr Kidd said: "Three inquiries into Labour Councillors in Glasgow is a very serious state of affairs yet we have heard nothing from the Labour party.

“Maybe Strathclyde Police should just move in to Labour’s offices in the City Chambers.

"On top of continued allegations of inappropriate land deals, dodgy contracts, favours for friends and living the high life with taxpayers cash the police have a lot to look into.

"How often can Labour’s Glasgow councillors be the subject of police investigations before their party speaks out? It's time for Labour to answer for their own problems."
