Bill Kidd, SNP MSP for the Glasgow region, has welcomed a funding boost Drumchapel Citizens Advice, which is among 64 organisations to benefit from the Scottish Government’s £2.2 million Third Sector Resilience Fund.
The fund was set up to support Scotland’s third sector through the
recession by helping to mitigate the impact of the recession on front
line services by providing one-off grants of up to £100,000 to
organisations.
Originally set at £1.7 million, Ministers increased the Third Sector Resilience Fund by 30 per cent in response to the level of need demonstrated. The beneficiaries include organisations supporting parents, children, older people, victims of crime as well as people experiencing financial difficulties, illness or disability.
Drumchapel CAB received funding for a post to support and develop volunteers to provide financial inclusion advice in response to increased demand created by the current economic circumstances.
Welcoming the announcement, Bill Kidd MSP said: "This £2.2 million in funding from the Scottish Government will support and sustain the development of Scotland’s third sector in these tough economic times.
"I am delighted that the Drumchapel Citizens Advice Bureau is to benefit from this funding, which will allow staff to meet the increased demand in financial inclusion advice.
"I am very pleased that the Scottish Government is continuing to support the third sector; allowing organisations like Drumchapel Citizens Advice to maintain and build on the lifeline services they provide to communities across Scotland."
