Bill Kidd, SNP MSP for Glasgow, has praised the work of The Talking Glaswegian in a parliamentary motion, calling for the recognition and commendation of the project, by the Parliament.
The Talking Glaswegian, having been active for almost 18 years, is a newspaper for the visually impaired featuring items from the Glaswegian newspaper and recorded onto cassettes by a team of volunteers and mailed to over 300 blind people in the city.
Commenting, Mr Kidd said: "This is a truly excellent project, which makes sure that Glasgow’s local news is made accessible to those who may be visually impaired.
"As Reporter on Disability for the Equal Opportunities Committee of the
Scottish Parliament I, of course, am delighted to hear of such a
well-established and valuable project which makes a real difference for
visually impaired people across the city. As such, it is a pleasure to
extend the commendations of the Parliament to all those involved."
Note:
Bill Kidd’s Motion:
S3M-03234 Glasgow Hears All About It— That the Parliament offers its commendations to The Talking Glaswegian, an excellent project that has been running for almost 18 years, whereby articles are selected from The Glaswegian newspaper, recorded and subsequently compiled as a tape and mailed on a weekly basis to over 300 visually-impaired people across the city and recognises and extols the hard work of the organiser of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme, Clare Morgan, and volunteers who make this service available, ensuring that local news is made accessible to those who are visually impaired.
