Bill Kidd MSP

Bill is MSP for Glasgow Anniesland. He previously represented the SNP as MSP for Glasgow Region (2007-11), and has also stood in numerous Parliamentary Elections, both Holyrood and Westminster.

He has also represented the SNP Trade Union Group on the Party's NEC.

His major political interests are the development of policies to eradicate poverty, job creation, housing policy and an end to the nuclear power and weapons programmes of successive British Governments.

On the day it emerged that two-thirds of Margaret Thatcher’s Cabinet opposed her decision to bring the Trident nuclear deterrent to Scotland, new Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont has been called on to end her silence on the presence of nuclear weapons in Scottish waters.

Trident submarine leaving FaslaneLabour MSP should come clean before leadership result

Responding to a survey by Scottish CND showing Johann Lamont is the only Labour leaders candidate not to set out her position on Trident, SNP MSP Bill Kidd says she must come clean before the results of Labour’s leadership contest on Saturday.

The MSP for Glasgow Anniesland, who is heavily involved in the campaign against nuclear weapons, called on Ms Lamont to set out her position.

SNP welcome STUC referendum position

The SNP has welcomed comments from the STUC saying there is no evidence that the prospect of a referendum on independence was deterring investment in Scotland.

In their comments, reported in today's Scotsman, the STUC deny UK Government claims and say that there is no need to hold a referendum now - despite the clamour of UK Government Ministers and Labour MSPs.

'Shipyards should not be political footballs'

Govan ShipyardThe SNP today welcomed calls from Unite for MPs to stop treating Scotland's shipyards as a political football.

The Union's call for an end to the "destabilising comments" follows statements initiated by Labour MP Thomas Docherty, Tory Defence Secretary Phillip Hammond and Lib Dem Secretary of State Michael Moore which threaten to undermine the yards.  Today Lord Robertson and Michael Moore have continued to undermine the skills and abilities of the defence industry in Scotland.
