McLaughlin calls for people to be good winter neighbours
Anne McLaughlin MSP
Tuesday, 05 January 2010

Anne McLaughlin MSPGlasgow SNP MSP Anne McLaughlin today urged people across Glasgow to respond to the current cold weather by looking out for their neighbours and vulnerable people in their communities, as the cold snap takes its toll.

Ms McLaughlin said: "The council and our emergency services will be stretched more than usual as the people of Glasgow experience some the coldest temperatures in years, so it is vital that we take the time to look out for each other as the frost bites.

“Anyone who can spare a little time to check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours, offer to pick some shopping up for them or remove snow from their garden paths, should be encouraged to do so. Such a small act of charity costs nothing, but will go a long way for those most in need.

“I would urge people to consider what they could do to be a good winter neighbour while current conditions persist.

“I would also encourage anyone who hasn't yet done so to take advantage of the Scottish Government’s Energy Assistance Package. This can help cut your energy bills and keep you warm, and can be accessed by calling the Energy Saving Trust on 0800 512 012 or visiting www.energyassistancepackage.com.”
