MSP welcomes cerebral palsy football championships to Glasgow
Tuesday, 16 February 2010

SNP MSP for Glasgow Anne McLaughlin has welcomed the news that Glasgow will host the 2010 European Football Championships. The event will take place at the World Regional Football Centre, Toryglen in the last 2 weeks of August and will feature teams from 10 countries across Europe.

It is organised by the World Governing Body of Sport for athletes and players with cerebral palsy, head injury or stroke, the Cerebral Palsy International and Recreation Association.

Commenting on the news today, Ms McLaughlin said: "This is fantastic news for Glasgow. They city has again demonstrated its welcoming spirit and leads from the front on the international stage. We have a great reputation for hosting major events and this is another fine example of that.

"Cerebral Palsy is a tough condition to live with and I admire the strength and determination of all those who are taking part in the championships.

"I know the people of Glasgow will want to welcome all those who will come from across Europe to take part and wish them every success in the games, but obviously I wish the Scottish team a slightly better tournament than the others, I'm sure they're going to have a great time here in Glasgow."
