Anne McLaughlin MSP welcomes Scottish Government CashBack For Communities funding for Glasgow
Anne McLaughlin MSP
Monday, 21 December 2009

Glasgow MSP Anne McLaughlin has welcomed the announcement by Cabinet Secretary for Justice Kenny MacAskill of over one million pounds of funding for youth projects under the CashBack For Communities Project, which seizes the proceeds of crime and uses it for healthy projects for young people in Scotland.

Commenting on the announcement, Ms McLaughlin said, “Glasgow has received 13 percent of the available funding even though we only have 11.3 percent of the population, in recognition of Glasgow’s particular challenges in meeting the needs of young people and of the diversity, innovation and excellence of youth projects here.

For three years CashBack for Communities has distributed money to successful programmes and has benefited millions of people.  Glasgow beneficiaries include Glasgow Community Safety Services divisions across the city; kayaking and canoeing for Glasgow Scouts; a Gorbals youth-run drop-in centre; and many more.  The scheme highlights the effectiveness of highly localised and small-scale projects as well as going some way to restoring the ravages of crime.  I look forward to visiting some of the Glasgow beneficiaries and offering any support I can.”
