Tuesday, 25 May 2010

Anne McLaughlin MSP, SNP MSP for the Glasgow region, is encouraging Glaswegians to nominate local organisations for the inaugural RNIB Scotland Go Shop Awards.

The awards have been created to recognise the good practice of organisations that go the extra mile for blind and partially sighted people.  Organisations can be nominated in 8 categories - Transport, Bank, Supermarket, Department store, Optometry provider, Restaurant or Pub, Entertainment venue or Website.  Nominations must  have been received by June 4th and voting will take place in September.

The Awards will be presented at a prestigious dinner event on 26th October at the Science Centre in Glasgow.

Further information and details about how to nominate can be found on the RNIB website www.rnib.org.uk/scotlandgoshop.

Commenting, Anne McLaughlin MSP said: "I would like to encourage the people of Glasgow to think about nominations for these very worthwhile awards. I would ask people in Glasgow to consider where they have noticed good practice in terms of ensuring blind and partially sighted people are catered for by local businesses and to think about nominating them via the RNIB website.

"A little bit of planning and extra effort can really make the difference for blind and partially sighted people. It would be great to see the efforts of local business recognised and for Glasgow to make a good showing at the award ceremony in the Science Centre."
