Anne McLaughlin MSP

Anne was sworn in as an MSP on Thursday 12 February following the sad passing of Bashir Ahmad MSP.

Anne has been involved in the SNP for more than twenty years, in various roles ranging from Campaign Co-ordinator for the Glasgow East by-election, Director of the pro-independence 'Business for Scotland' and latterly as political advisor to Bob Doris MSP.

Originally from Greenock, Anne has lived in Glasgow for many years. She is deeply committed to International Development and spent 3 months volunteering in post-tsunami Sri Lanka in 2008.

Glasgow must not miss out on share of Safer Streets funding, says McLaughlin

Anne McLaughlin MSPAnne McLaughlin, SNP MSP for the Glasgow region, has called on Glasgow City Council to make sure the city does not miss out on its share of £400,000 being made available by the Scottish Government to improve public safety. The Safer Streets funding is used by local authorities to support community safety initiatives including high visibility police patrols in 'hot spot' areas, targeting of street drinkers and late night taxi marshals. Previous funding has been used in Glasgow for high visibility police patrols; a static first aid post in the City Centre and improved CCTV coverage.

The decision comes despite the police board and the Scottish Government having yet to receive the budget for the coming financial year.

McLaughlin gives support to Kidz Biz competition

Anne McLaughlin, SNP MSP for the Glasgow Region, has today given her backing to Kidz Biz, the newsletter aimed at 8-11 year olds produced by the Young People Project at the National Fostering Network. The newsletter, which has been very well received, is currently running a poetry and drawing competition. It is looking for young entrants in its 5-11 and 12-16 year old categories. Prizes include iTunes vouchers, and the competition, which closes on 3rd September, has ‘Fostering’ as its theme.

McLaughlin applauds new strategy to support Scotland's carers

Anne McLaughlin, SNP MSP for the Glasgow Region, has welcomed the publication of the Scottish Government's new five year strategies for supporting carers and young carers which will see £5 million invested in providing respite opportunities. For the first time, the Scottish Government has published a separate strategy for young carers, recognising the unique challenges they face.

The strategy includes increasing investment in training for carers, giving greater priority to carers' own health and establishing a Carers Rights Charter.
