SNP MP for Glasgow East John Mason will tonight (Tuesday) say that it's time to ditch politicians and start voting for local champions in a broadcast on Channel 4.

In tonight's Political Slot, Mr Mason will stress the importance of elected representatives being at the heart of their local communities and say that politicians have served their own interests for too long.

Commenting, Mr Mason said: "When I was elected 18 months ago, I promised to be on the side of the people in Glasgow East and that's what I've tried to do.

"The phoney war between Labour and the Tories has nothing to offer the people of Scotland and the self-interested politicians of the London parties has even less.

"For too long, MPs have put their interests before those of their local communities and that has to change.

"If elected, SNP MPs will be local champions - putting the interests of their local communities first every time."
