SNP: Investing in Glasgow with £2bn for Commonwealth Games - Labour hypocricy 'beyond belief'
John Mason MP
Tuesday, 27 October 2009

The SNP MP for Glasgow East, John Mason, has rejected Labour's absurd smear tactics over the SNP Scottish Government's funding for Glasgow. The East End representative has pointed out that, not only did Glasgow City Council receive the highest funding grant per head of population of any mainland council in Scotland, but the Scottish Government is also investing over £2bn to build infrastructure in advance of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Commenting, Mr Mason said: "Glasgow receives more funding per person from the Scottish Government than any other local council in Scotland, apart from the islands. On the basis of social and economic needs, that is only right and proper.  I am pleased that, despite massive cuts to the Scottish budget being imposed by the London Labour Government, the SNP is ensuring that Glasgow gets the funding it needs to flourish.

"The SNP Government is directly investing over £2bn to build infrastructure in advance on the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and that will be of tremendous benefit to the East End and to the City as a whole.  There are also millions of pounds in investment in the City's NHS facilities.to take into account.

"Labour might pretend otherwise, but the facts speak for themselves.  The SNP Scottish Government has done more for Glasgow in in two years than Labour managed over decades."
