Audit Scotland Glasgow response 'not good enough' - too many questions unanswered
John Mason MP
Thursday, 25 March 2010

John Mason MPCommenting on a letter from Audit Scotland saying they can't investigate Glasgow City Council following the resignation of Steven Purcell and a welter of stories about how the council was run, Glasgow East MP John Mason said: "This response is not good enough and I question how Audit Scotland can come to this conclusion considering the numerous reports of how Glasgow City Council and its arms-length organisations have been run by the Labour party.

"Audit work is largely based on risk and a new risk has clearly been identified along with numerous reports of questionable practices. To say they are doing no extra work sounds illogical.

"Even the Chief Executive of Glasgow City Council obviously sees things have not been run as they should as we have seen with his ban on arms-length organisations buying tables at Labour party fundraisers.

"There are too many questions flying around in the wake of Steven Purcell's resignation and Audit Scotland have to explain why what has been reported is not worthy of a full investigation of the council."
