After months of indecision Thursday (18th) saw the announcement of SportScotland's HQ coming to Glasgow. This was conveniently on the day of the full Council meeting so Steven Purcell of Labour and Christopher Mason of the LibDems were able to pat each other on the back. Whatever the reasons for the delay, it was clearly these two parties in the Scottish Executive which were the cause of the problem.

The SNP also welcomes the jobs to Glasgow and agrees that this may be a boost to our Commonwealth Games bid for 2014. However, at the meeting on Thursday the SNP's John Mason made it clear where the weakness of Glasgow's bid lay. "It is not the location of SportScotland which has the potential to undermine this bid. Rather it is the fact that Scotland is part of the UK for Olympic Games and for political purposes. If Scotland was a completely separate country our chances of winning would be much greater.
