Visitor attractions in parks
Saturday, 02 September 2006

The Executive Committee approved progression to tender for a number of projects including the Botanic Gardens and Kelvingrove. John Mason sought a number of assurances including:

  • Would attractions like the aerial activity centre be affordable to young people?
  • Would any development at the Botanic Gardens Station still allow trains or trams to use the railway line?
  • Would tenderers be required to take on apprentices and/or school pupils for work experience? And
  • Would the Committee be able to turn down any tenders which would have too big an impact on a park?

To all of these questions he was given a positive answer. On this basis he said he was open to developments where there were previous buildings in parks but was concerned about overly dominant developments especially in the Botanic Gardens.
