The SNP has repeatedly questioned the need for a new pedestrian bridge linking Tradeston & Broomielaw. At least the tender approved at the Executive today (Friday 8th) was cheaper than earlier versions. However, John Mason questioned at the Committee why politicians were not making the final choice between competing designs. He accepted that engineers and accountants were best placed to assess the financial and technical aspects. But as Aesthetics & Form were also important elements and more subjective, surely they should have been considered by elected politicians rather than officers.
