The Chirnsyde saga continues
Monday, 18 December 2006
The SNP’s Billy McAllister has long campaigned on this issue and is not about to give up now! Before the dramatic events of the previous week the SNP had lodged a motion calling for action on CCI (the Chirnsyde Community Initiative). This motion had been overtaken by events and the administration would not allow the SNP to amend or replace its motion. Therefore, there was no debate on the subject.

However, questions were asked at the Council meeting by Billy. He queried when the centre might reopen under Council control, what was the current status of the management committee, and why the CCI vans had not been taken back by the Council. All he was given were vague answers.

There was also discussion as to whether officers of Culture & Leisure Services should shoulder some of the blame for taking far too long in closing the Centre. Some argued that only politicians were at fault. However, the SNP notes that officials in CLS are quick to take the praise for successes like Kelvingrove. Therefore, they must be prepared to share the blame when huge blunders like Chirnsyde are made.
