Subway extension

Cllr Alistair Watson, chair of Strathclyde Passenger Transport Authority, is to visit Nuremberg, Turin, and Toulouse to assess metro developments in these cities.

At the SPTA meeting which approved this visit, Councillor John Mason asked that there should be a written report on the visit and a commitment to this was give.   John Mason said he had serious reservations about expanding our narrow gauge railway rather than having a full size one.   The advantage of a tram or metro system with the same gauge as the main railways would be to allow much more flexibility of services, interchanges, etc.   Cllr Watson promised to report back on this point after his visits.
