At Thursday’s Council the SNP questioned the effects of the potential takeover of Scottish Power by Iberdrola. This would be a huge blow to the Glasgow economy with loss of senior jobs plus the downgrading of the City for major business developments. The Spanish Company itself had said the UK was always the likeliest port of call because “that’s where the shops are open.”
While the UK government and Scottish Executive have stood back and done nothing, other countries in Europe have sought to defend their economies and businesses. John Mason commented that the UK government seems keen on defence when it comes to Iraq and Trident but is weak on defence of our economic interests.
