SNP question Parks and Facilities Committee
Saturday, 01 October 2005
The SNP Group on the Council has questioned the usefulness of the Parks & Facilities Committee.   This committee was created in 2003 and covers a weird mix of unrelated subjects.   For example, at the meeting on Wednesday 28th item 4 concerned home care services while the following item looked at better facilities in parks. John Mason and Iris Gibson sit on this committee and question the lack of a common theme for its deliberations.   "Most committees tie in to the relevant department, e.g. Education, Social Work, and Development & Regeneration.   However, this one seems to cover a hotchpotch of subjects that could well be dealt with elsewhere.   Home Care could come under Social Work while Parks could come under Land Services.   Apart from anything else, it is a huge waste of officers' time to have so many senior staff sitting through a committee with little relevance to them.

We wonder if the committee's main aim is to provide a post and allowance for the Convenor, Cllr Aileen Colleran.
