Public transport money must not be spent on roads
Friday, 24 February 2006
Friday's (24th) meeting of SPT (Strathclyde Partnership for Transport) heard that up to 30% of the new body's capital budget could be spent on roads. However, as the capital budget has not increased compared to the old SPT, this would effectively mean cutting the public transport spend and diverting more money into roads.

John Mason, the only SNP rep on SPT, said he was strongly opposed to any such move. "If there is new money available, some of it might well be spent on roads," he said. "However, it is not acceptable that any of SPT's current meagre capital budget should be diverted away from public transport."
