Public should have right of appeal
Friday, 09 September 2005
The SNP has again called for third parties, i.e. the public, to have the right to appeal against planning decisions.   At a vote in the Development & Regeneration Services Committee on Thursday 8th, the SNP and LibDem amendment was defeated by 17 votes to 2 (with 1 abstention).   The hope had been that Glasgow would take this stance towards the Scottish Executive's consultation on planning reform. John Mason, SNP group leader, said "The present planning system is totally biased towards the developers.   The Council falls over itself to encourage more house building without any spin-off benefits to the community.   And on the odd occasion where the developers are turned down, they have the right of appeal while ordinary residents are refused this same right."
