Need for better spread of CCTV
Saturday, 03 September 2005
The need to find new ways of funding CCTV cameras was again discussed at Shettleston Community Safety Forum on Tuesday 30th.   It seems most funding comes from either Social Inclusion Partnership money or Communities Scotland.   So residents who are not in a SIP area and have few rented houses near them, have very little chance of getting cameras.
The SNP is calling for a better way of distributing funds for cameras.   CCTV should be located according to need and that means looking at crime statistics.   Disorder does not stop at a railway bridge so there is something wrong if the money is only available on one side and not on the other.
