Glasgow SNP welcome election success for Aung San Suu Kyi

John McLaughlinThe Scottish National Party Group on Glasgow City Council learned, with pleasure, of the election victory of Aung San Suu Kyi and her National League for Democracy in Myanmar (Burma).

SNP spokesperson on International Relations, Bailie John McLaughlin, said: “We rejoice in this victory for democracy and freedom.  Aung San Suu Kyi has been and continues to be an inspiration and a shining beacon for all who believe in peaceful progress to political change throughout the world.

“She was unanimously made a Freeman of the City of Glasgow and we look forward to her visiting the city to receive the Freedom of the City in person.

“The good wishes of the SNP and all true democrats are sent to her for her future success and that of her beloved country.

“We look forward to seeing Myanmar taking its rightful place in the United Nations and welcoming her into the family of nations."
