Doubts over second stage transfer
Friday, 12 August 2005

TownheadWell, surprise, surprise, someone has worked out that SST of GHA’s (ex Council) housing stock will cost money.   Those of us opposed to the original stock transfer have known that and have been saying it for years.

A straight transfer from the Council to new or existing housing associations would have been swifter, simpler, and cheaper.   But the ridiculous two-stage process agreed between Labour councillors and the Labour Government is costing huge amounts more in terms of both money and time.   There were massive set up costs to get GHA up and running so obviously there were going to be set up costs for the new smaller associations too.   Yet these costs were not budgeted for!

John Mason says, “Small local housing associations have got to be better for tenants than a huge monolithic bureaucracy like the GHA.   There was never any need for GHA and it has cost us all as taxpayers dearly.   It was Labour politicians, both national and local, who got us into this fix.   Now they must find the resources to pay for the transfer to give tenants real control.”Well, surprise, surprise, someone has worked out that SST of GHA’s (ex Council) housing stock will cost money.   Those of us opposed to the original stock transfer have known that and have been saying it for years.
