A jaunt to Japan to look at roses
Friday, 11 November 2005
Glasgow faces a huge challenge to adequately fund the Equal Pay agreement which low paid (mainly women) staff are definitely due.   Councillors no longer get biscuits with their tea in what is presumably a symbolic gesture to show we are all tightening our belts!

Against this background the SNP expected that Labour councillors' foreign trips might be curtailed somewhat.   In 2005 Councillors Aileen Colleran and Ronnie Quinn between them made 5 foreign trips to see exhibitions of roses.   On Wednesday 9th the Parks Committee was asked to approve £1,220 for Councillor Colleran to visit more roses, this time in Japan in May 2006.   The SNP voted against this but as usual Labour pushed it through (the LibDem abstained).   After the meeting John Mason said, "Even though this expenditure has been approved, I would call on Aileen Colleran not to go on this trip.   Surely Glasgow has higher priorities at this time."
