Cllr Allison Hunter - Group Leader

Cllr Allison Hunter

Allison Hunter was born in 1942 in Kinning Park and educated at Pollokshields Senior Secondary School  and Jordanhill College.  She was a primary school teacher for 23 years before going on to work as the SNP’s National Organiser, retiring in 2002.

Allison has been a member of the SNP for almost 40 years and is a member of the SNP’s National Executive Committee.  She was the election agent for Jim Sillars during the 1988 Govan by-election, when the SNP scored a spectacular success, and is currently Nicola Sturgeon’s election agent.  She is married with 3 grown up children and 2 grandchildren.

Allison says: "It’s time for a fresh approach to local government in Glasgow, with councillors who really listen to the people. It’s also time to replace the unfair council tax with a fair local income tax based on ability to pay.  Only the SNP can deliver this."

Massive Improvement in Community Engagement under SNP Administration

An SNP administration in Glasgow will work to ensure that every part of Glasgow is represented by a community council, in a signal of the party’s determination to vastly improve Glasgow City Council’s engagement with communities and to revitalise local democracy.

Community councils have a statutory role to play in the management of our localities and in Glasgow as a whole, but there are serious concerns that the current Glasgow administration does not adequately involve community councils in decisions about the areas they represent.

SNP to Take Action to Tackle Anti-social Behaviour
Sunday, 01 April 2012

McLean pledges to makes it easier to deal with offences in our communities

A new SNP administration in Glasgow will move to merge city enforcement powers in the city to make life easier for Glaswegians. At present, the Council has enforcement powers over offences such as littering, fly tipping, dog fouling and illegal parking. The SNP would seek to enhance enforcement of these powers by making staff eligible to take action against those causing a nuisance in the city.

img Kenny-McLeanSNP Environment Spokesperson, Councillor Kenny McLean, said: “Many of the issues which negatively affect people’s lives are overseen by Council officers – be it dog fouling, littering and fly tipping or some types of antisocial behaviour. The Council has different officers with only very specific powers and, as is often the case, the officer with the powers needed are not there when people need them. An SNP-led Council would take steps to bring these powers together, so that officers are able to respond to more incidents as they happen.
