Hunter pledges greater access for public
Glasgow’s SNP Leader of the Opposition today announced that an SNP-led Glasgow City Council will introduce a petitions committee to the Council. The proposal would see a new committee established, similar to the petitions committee in the Scottish Parliament and following the example of SNP-led Renfrewshire Council.
The committee will be a part of the SNP’s steps to make the Council more open and accountable to the people it serves.

Rabbani - Glasgow needs change and Scotland needs independence
Glasgow Labour councillor, Irfan Rabbani, has announced that he has joined the SNP. He will also join the SNP Group on Glasgow City Council.
Councillor Rabbani said: "I am delighted to be joining the SNP. In many ways, this decision was as easy for me to make as it was momentous.
"For some time now I have been coming to the conclusion that Scotland will be better off as an independent country - deciding for ourselves what is best for our country, our families and our communities.

Creative industries to benefit
Commenting on the Scottish Government’s announcement of new Enterprise Zones for Scotland and the news that Pacific Quay has been chosen for support of creative industries, Glasgow SNP Leader of the Opposition Councillor Allison Hunter said: “The announcement of a new enterprise zone in Glasgow is to be welcomed. The creative industries are already developing a strong base at Pacific Quay, so incentives for additional growth in this sector will form a strong base from which to generate new jobs in the city.

SNP fighting for Glasgow as Labour fight among themselves
With just over 100 days to go until the local authority elections, the SNP today (Sunday) launched its campaign to win Glasgow City Council with the announcement of all 43 local candidates.
While Labour infighting and deselections on the authority continue, Deputy First Minister and SNP Depute leader Nicola Sturgeon said the SNP’s local team would fight for the priorities of people in Glasgow and focus on delivering the jobs and investment that the city deserves.

Glasgow City Council's Operational Delivery Scrutiny Committee today agreed unanimously to return the decision on Gadburn School to the Executive Committee to think again.
After a two hour session discussing the merits and processes of integrating pupils with Additional Supported Learning needs, the Committee accepted a motion from Bailie Gerry Leonard to reject the Executive Committee decision and to request the Education Department to continue discussions with parents and local elected members to seek a solution to co-location at Barmulloch Primary School in such a way that Gadburn School retains its identity and headteacher.

SNP comment on council committee vote
At this afternoon’s Sustainability and the Environment Policy Development Committee, committee members voted to amend the recommendations of the Land and Environment Services Workplan paper, to criticise the Council’s leader for disregarding the policy development process and announcing policies on the hoof. The amendment, added as a fourth point to the paper, stated that committee “notes the Council Leader’s disregard for the policy development process through announcing new policies without regard to the committee system.”
