SNP condem proposed removal of Direct and Care services from Council control
Tuesday, 21 October 2008
Labour, Lib Dem and Green councillors today voted to press on with plans to remove Direct and Care Services (DACs) from direct council control. At committee, SNP councillors voted against the decision, but were defeated 11 – 5.

DACs includes council staff who are employed to provide home helps, school meals, and work as school crossing patrollers amongst many other functions. If the proposal is given final approval at the council’s Executive Committee, then 10,500 council employees will be transferred to a new arms-length external organisation.

Jennifer Dunn, group spokesperson for DACs, said: "The SNP group in Glasgow are disappointed that the administration has pushed the proposed DACs LLP through another stage. In the long term, we are concerned that the proposal will erode staff pay and conditions, and make the service less accountable to service users, councillors, and the wider public."
