Opposition boycott training session |

The Council is intending to abolish its long standing committee system this summer and replace it with one decision making committee made up entirely of Labour councillors. This is to ensure Labour has even more control and the opposition is excluded from decision making. It is an attempt to get round the legislation which makes council elections fairer from 2007. The Council administration proposed that opposition councillors should troop along tamely and discuss training needs with a former Labour councillor. Hardly seems the best person to help us challenges Labour in Glasgow! But SNP councillors (along with LibDem and SSP) boycotted the meeting. Instead we are looking to study how the system works in other Scottish councils by meeting officers and non-Labour councillors.
