Mixed views on casino short-leeting |

News that Glasgow has been short-leeted for a super (or regional casino) has been greeted with reservations by the SNP Council Group. The jobs would obviously be welcome and we are very much in favour of growing the economy. But the fear is such a venture could widen inequality in the City by sucking money out of poorer neighbourhoods. Many voluntary groups are concerned about gambling addiction being added to Glasgow's already huge problems of alcohol and drug addiction. The idea of a casino is most strongly supported by businesses and the Labour Party.
Cllr Iris Gibson, the SNP Group's secretary, said, "I can see there are arguments on both sides of this but we need to proceed with caution."
