Late night subway, trains and taxis
Friday, 14 October 2005
Following the suggestion that the Subway should run later at night and into early Saturday and Sunday mornings, John Mason said:

1. I would like to see the Subway AND the trains operating later; they need to be looked on as one interconnected operation.   The Subway mainly serves the West End but other parts of the City (and beyond) depend more on trains.   Money has to be found for this but maintenance done at night must not be compromised.

2. We need more taxis on the streets.   On Fridays and Saturdays only 30% operate at midnight which is not good enough.   Perhaps it should be a condition of their licence that they must be on the road 50% of weekend nights.   Some folk, who do not use taxis during the day, do use them late at night, as they feel safer.   Catching a taxi also needs to become more efficient: other cities use taxi marshalls and that should happen here too.
