Strathclyde Passenger Transport is due to be replaced by a Regional
Transport Partnership in the not too distant future. In
order to start the process for a smooth transition, Labour-controlled
SPT arranged an informal meeting for RTP councillors on Friday
21st. However, the 3 dominant (and Labour-controlled)
councils (Glasgow, North & South Lanarkshire) called for a boycott
of the meeting! It was then cancelled.
Cllr John Mason who is a member of SPT and has been nominated by
Glasgow to be on the RTP said, "This does seem to be another case of
jockeying for position in the Labour ranks. It looks as if
the 3 councils felt that SPT did not know its place and had to be
stamped down. I just hope the passengers don't suffer while
Labour councillors engage in power struggles behind closed doors." |
