Labour panic as the truth suffers |
|
Friday, 30 March 2007 |
With opinion polls worrying Labour at both national and local level, it seems they are becoming increasingly desperate to frighten the public into not voting SNP.
When the 2006/7 and 2007/8 Council budgets were set, SNP councillors voted for the freeze in Council Tax despite having some reservations. And the SNP nationally has promised to freeze Council Tax for the next 2 years if they form the Scottish government from May. After that the unfair Council Tax would be replaced by a fairer Local Income Tax. LIT would be frozen at 3p in each pound to start with.
However, it seems Labour are unable to attack the SNP's solid policies. Instead they are distributing leaflets suggesting the SNP might support a Council Tax rise. Not exactly the truth of the matter!
When asked about this, SNP Group Leader John Mason said, "In many ways I take it as a compliment that Labour are so scared of us. Otherwise why would they be resorting to this kind of tactic? Like the little boy who cried wolf, they will only be believed for so long. There are already signs that voters do not trust the words coming out of the Labour Party spin machine."
