Failure to fund Gaelic school |
|
Saturday, 26 November 2005 |
The SNP Group on Glasgow City Council has criticised the Scottish
Executive's failure to properly fund the new Gaelic medium secondary
school in Woodside.
The proposed cost at mid-2002 prices was £3.5 million. The Executive
was to pay £2.75m and the Council £0.75m. However, despite the fact
we all know there is inflation year on year, and especially in the
construction industry, the Scottish Executive is refusing to move on
its £2.75m figure. Total costs are now expected to be £4m so the
Council faces a bill of £1.25m, an increase of 66% on its contribution.
The
SNP fully supports having this new school. But once again
it seems the Scottish Executive are trying to take all the credit while
leaving the local council to foot the bill. |
