Empty promises from Culture & Leisure Services
Friday, 07 October 2005
At the CLS Committee on Wednesday 5th a paper was presented showing the Department's proposed "Customer Promise".   Commitments include:
  •  You will always be served quickly and with a smile;
  • Services we charge for will be competitively priced;
  • Our venues will be clean.
While these are great ideals, there is no way they will be delivered 100%, i.e. the Council is certain to break its promises.   All staff cannot be expected to smile all the time, there are always going to be queues for some services, and venues will be dirty some of the time.   And 10p for a photocopy is hardly competitive with the shop at 5p!

Rather than making promises it cannot hope to keep, the Council should have said that these were aims they were seeking to achieve.   Sadly it means that all other Council promises will be taken with a pinch of salt.
