Depute director given the boot
Friday, 09 September 2005

Only 2½ years after the post was created, Bridget McConnell's depute's post has been abolished.   This bizarre turn of events came to light at Personnel & Administration Committee on Friday 9th.   Culture & Leisure Service Dept will now have no depute director unlike other departments in the Council.

John Mason said, "It seems an incredibly weird move to be abolishing such a senior position after such a short time.   It appears to be leaving Mrs McConnell with less support at a time that she is taking on extra responsibilities.   And it is potentially extremely harsh for the present incumbent of that post.   In addition it sends out the message that this is not such an important department within the Council, whereas we believe Culture and Leisure are extremely important."
