At Policy & Resources on Tuesday, Labour's Draft Council Plan for the year up to the elections was discussed. Opposition councillors John Mason (SNP) and Christopher Mason (LibDem) focussed questions on Education and the claim that the maximum size of a primary 1 class would be reduced to 25 by August 2007. John Mason asked how average class sizes would be affected as there was little point reducing the maximum if the average was in fact increasing through school closures. Christopher Mason asked what would happen to the extra 5 kids if a school could only take 25 instead of the previous 30. Neither officials nor Labour councillors was able to answer either question! As Steven Purcell was absent, the meeting was being chaired by Margaret Sinclair who appeared somewhat ill at ease in her new role. She therefore proposed that the matter be continued, a surprise if minor victory for the opposition.
