Council meeting Thursday 5 April |
|
Friday, 30 March 2007 |
The final Council meeting before the elections takes place on Thursday 5th April. As Group Leader John Mason is currently suspended, other SNP councillors will be taking the opportunity to put forward motions.
Billy McAllister will seek Council's support for the cancellation of the Trident nuclear weapons replacement. He will argue that £25 billion would be better spent on education, health, crime prevention and local services.
Then Iris Gibson will demand that the Council leads by example in saving energy. Despite frequent reports and speeches on the subject, it seems clear that many of these words are empty as far as the Council is concerned. Lights and heating continue to be turned full on even on warm sunny days. If the Council expects ordinary citizens to be concerned for the environment, it should be setting a better example. |
