At the Knightswood Park by-election the Council allocated the only
Council facility in the ward to the Labour Party for campaign rooms at
the nominal rent of £50. The allocation took place before
the other parties even knew there was to be a by-election! A complaint to the Council was made at the time but this was rejected
by Chief Executive, George Black, and by Council Leader, Steven Purcell.
Now John Mason has officially lodged two complaints:
- To the Ombudsman concerning the Council's conduct in this affair, and
- To the Standards Commission concerning Councillor Steven Purcell's involvement.
We now await the reaction of both bodies. This case
appears to have been yet another example of the unhealthily close
relationship between the Labour Party and the Council.
Perhaps it is not surprising when one party has run the City for so
long but that does not make it any more acceptable. |
