When the Labour Party closed St Augustine Secondary and, despite full knowledge of the risks, demolished the buildings without first safely removing deadly asbestos, local people were shocked. To this day unusually high cancer rates have haunted school staff. There are fears that the St Augustine primary may have had asbestos mixed in with the roughcast.
Billy says: 'The full rigour of Health and Safety law must be invoked to ensure that any demolition for a new Primary on the at the St Augustine site is done safely-at whatever the cost. Meantime I am calling on Glasgow City Council to have tests carried out on the roughcast at the School to determine its composition'.
