Sick Labour target weakest in society
Saturday, 11 February 2006

The SNP believes that anyone fit to work should be actively seeking employment, although it helps if there are actually real jobs to apply for. We want to create decent jobs and bring investment into Glasgow and Scotland.

Any benefits system has a few who take advantage which is wrong, but they are the exception, not the rule. But Labour wish to demonise everyone on Incapacity Benefit as workshy or idle. They have set a target to get 80% of claimants benefits cut.

Money saving is the real agenda behind reforms. They even considered giving cash bonuses to GP’s for everyone they ‘sign off’ Incapacity Benefit - a move which  outraged our doctors.
Many decent people in Glasgow are living in fear of having vital money withdrawn from them by the Government. Disability activist Frank Kennedy (pictured) said: “I struggle at times to avoid letting my disability be a barrier to me leading a normal life. Incapacity Benefit is my life line.”
