Single parent Karen Higgins needed dampness fixed and other repairs carried out to her GHA home. After going to local Labour Party members and to GHA officials, Karen was no further on. It was the same old script: she had tried all the usual angles expecting help, but it had not worked.
Then Billy McAllister took up her case. Within two weeks, GHA were out sorting out the dampness problem.
GHA also refused to install central heating in her house - until Billy intervened. New central heating was due to be installed just as this newsletter went to press. Karen says: "I am really grateful for Billy's support and help in trying to get my dampness sorted."
Karen says she will support and vote for Billy because he is the first one to help her get a resolve. She would encourage everyone to vote for Billy as he is a man that keeps his promises unlike Labour.
Disabled campaigner Frank Kennedy had tried for many years to have his GHA home adapted for his needs to give himself and his family a better quality of life. Frank experienced many rebuffs and doors being slammed in his face. He went to his local members and MPs seeking help, to no avail.
Then he contacted Billy McAllister. Billy was not afraid to go the extra mile, including participating with Frank in a direct action protest at one GHA office, and contacting the BBC for them to broadcast the case on TV. Soon GHA backed down.
Billy negotiated an agreement that secured a £50,000 extension and other adaptions Frank needed to have a dignified life - something that all disabled people should have as a basic human right.
Frank says: "If it wasn't for Billy McAllister's commitment and support I would not have achieved the necessary adaptions to improve the quality of life for me and my family. Billy is a man of action and not words. Billy delivers on his promises." |
