Cllr Ken Andrew elected for the SNP
The Glasgow SNP Group this evening welcomed new member, Councillor Ken Andrew, following his election in the Hillhead ward by election. The by election was called following the death of SNP Councillor George Roberts, who was first elected to the Council in 2007.
Speaking after the result was announced, Councillor Ken Andrew said: "I am delighted, and proud, to have been elected to represent the people of Hillhead. After the tragic death of George Roberts I know that I have big boots to fill, but it is a challenge I am looking forward to.
"I would like to thank the people of Hillhead for giving me the opportunity to represent everyone in the area. I would also like to thank my campaign team and all those who made this election win possible.
"The result tonight is more than simply a by election win for the SNP. This is a sign of the determination of the people of Glasgow to grasp an opportunity for change in their city. It is a vote for the positive message of the SNP as Glasgow and Scotland move forward."
SNP Leader of the Opposition, Councillor Allison Hunter said: "We are delighted to welcome Ken to our group and into Glasgow City Council. Ken’s experience and commitment to Hillhead will make him an excellent addition to the Council and SNP group as we prepare for the coming election next May. The people of Hillhead have spoken loud and clear this evening, and that message is a call for change in Glasgow."
