Only SNP can bring a fresh start for Glasgow North East - Labour admit letting area down
Tuesday, 20 October 2009

SNP candidate in Glasgow North East David Kerr today said it is clear that only the SNP can bring a fresh start for Glasgow North East.

His comments come as Labour's leader in the Scottish Parliament admitted Labour 'could have done more' for the area.

Mr Kerr said: "Only the SNP can bring a fresh start to Glasgow North East.

"Voters in Glasgow North East can see the positive difference the SNP has made in only two years of Government, helping hard pressed families and businesses and investing in new opportunities.

"They know that the SNP's council tax freeze is putting more money in their pockets, that cuts in prescription charges are helping their families and the small business bonus is keeping shops open and local people employed.

"Iain Gray's statement shows Labour have taken Glasgow North East for granted, failing to face up to the challenges and failing to invest in new opportunities.

"For 74 years Labour have ignored the people in this area and only 6 months ago they were ignoring local communities and closing local schools.

"The SNP has been working hard in Glasgow North East for months: chapping doors and meeting voters. Local people don't want scaremongering - they want an MP who will give them a strong local voice, speak up for the constituency and stand beside them when the council and London government ignore their concerns.

"Together, the people of Glasgow North East and the SNP have got what it takes for a fresh start for Glasgow North East and a real voice for this community."

SNP MP for Glasgow East John Mason added: "Labour have learned nothing from their defeat in Glasgow East. They are still obsessed with themselves and scaremongering about the SNP - an approach which does nothing to help Glasgow North East overcome the problems it faces.

"Gordon Brown hid from people in Glasgow East but when he comes to Glasgow North East he must face up to real people who continue to compete with the challenges his government has repeatedly ignored - and explain why Labour have let Glasgow down."
