As voters go to the polls in the Norwich North by-election today (Thursday), voters across Glasgow North East are asking why they have been denied the same right.

Whilst out campaigning in recent days, SNP Glasgow North East candidate David Kerr has spoken to local people who are extremely disappointed to hear they will not have an opportunity to vote until November.

Jakki Morrison - a home carer from Milton - said:  "Four months is a long time to be without an MP - especially given the situation at Port Dundas. Glasgow North East needs a strong voice to speak for the people."

Chair of Germiston Community Council, Hugh Fitzgerald, said: "Labour haven't done anything for this area in generation and once again they've neglected us by leaving us without an MP for months."

Parent Campaigner for Barmulloch Primary, Lynn Scott, said: "We want our by-election and we want it now. This ridiculous tactic of run and hide until everyone forgets about Labour's school closures just isn't good enough."

Mr Kerr added: "If voters in Norwich can elect a new MP within weeks of their old representative standing down, then voters in Glasgow deserve nothing less.

"With the threat over Diageo jobs at Port Dundas, not to mention the closure threat over local schools by the Labour council now, more than ever, people in Glasgow North East need an MP who will speak up for local interests."
